 Some
special needs children need support in accomplishing both day
to day activities and the fun experiences we all enjoy. Volunteering
as a caregiver allows special needs children a chance to make friends,
learn new skills, and partake in enjoyable activities. Hand-in-Hand
was created with the belief that every individual, regardless of
ability, should have opportunities for fun and personal growth.
In addition to helping a child, you allow their regular caregivers a chance
to go to work, grocery shop, or perhaps have a rare evening out
to relax.

Volunteers of all ages can make a contribution, especially those who can share their time
with a special needs child more than once. Individuals who build
relationships with specific children are Hand-in-Hand's most sought
after volunteers. A volunteer must be at least 14 years of age to work without parent
or adult supervision. Our goal is to match each volunteer with a special needs
individual and activity that suits them best. |

Swimming,
horseback riding, games, bowling, sports, arts & crafts, or
reading stories are all possible activities you will do as a volunteer.
Your job as a Hand-in-Hand volunteer is to provide individual attention,
a guiding hand, caring interaction, fun, and friendship.

Individual
volunteers must fill-out a volunteer application with references,
sign policy statements and have a background check. Volunteers are
given orientation information and are supervised by Hand-in-Hand staff.
Volunteers are typically paired with an experienced staff person
to guide them in their volunteer activity.

Volunteers are especially needed for summer day camp and weekend/evening respite events. Our infant/toddler child care center and after school program
at Tessa's Place also provide daytime volunteer opportunities.

Groups or individuals may call Molly Steil at
