17th Camp Hand-in-Hand

Camp Hand-in-Hand starts next Monday July 18th, and to celebrate the 17th year of camp, we wanted to share some memories of that very first camp experience from Vinnie Smith, one of the co-founders of Hand-in-Hand: "Seventeen summers ago, we had this simple dream: make a one-week camp happen for children with special needs and their families. At that time, we did not have a theme for our camp, we just referred to it as “Camp Can Do”. We gathered a team of friends, teachers and many family members to join us in this endeavor. Forty campers came to camp that first year. We planned a week of structure and fun for the kids. In the early years, we were based on the upper area of camp and the camp

Sunday Funday

One of Hand-in-Hand's board members, Kelly Kreiter, has a beautiful and fun farm that she invites us to a couple times each year, and this past Sunday the Sunday Funday participants got to have a dance party while it rained, then they got to interact with and feed some of the farm animals, ride on the gator, and do finger painting! Everyone had so much fun and we're very grateful for people like Kelly and her family. Thanks for having us, Kelly! #farm #sundayfunday #handinhand #handinhand

Saying Goodbye to Amy Steil

Amy Steil has been with Hand-in-Hand for 12 years, and she has been responsible for helping make Hand-in-Hand into the wonderful place it is today. Sadly, Amy is moving on to new adventures in Omaha. We're very sad to see her go, but we know she will do great things wherever she ends up. The whole week before her last day, we celebrated Amy and all she's done for Hand-in-Hand. We threw a surprise party with HIH staff and her family and friends, and we did something special each day during her last week, including cupcakes with the kids and a vegetarian potluck. It was a blast to shower Amy with love, even though we were all a bit sad along the way. Amy's Surprise Going Away Party River Bandi
