I started volunteering thanks to my Grandma Marcella, who always showed me helping bring happiness to others is truly the medicine you need to be happy yourself. I've volunteered the last 13 years of my life with various charities, starting with Special Olympics, which eventually led me to work in high school as a caregiver to an individual who was nonverbal. From then on my path was working with individuals of all abilities.
My life led me to the Quad Cities where I became a Special Education teacher for two years, as well as continued as an Interpreter for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing. After much searching, I found Hand-in-Hand and continued my road of volunteering last year. Ultimately, this was the best choice I could've made as I now am the Director of our Recreation Programs here at HIH. I couldn't imagine a better place to work! Coming into the organized chaos of these kiddos every day pushes me to be better for them. It's an amazing organization doing unlimited things for these kids and I'm beyond proud to be a part of it.
Looking forward to making many more happy memories with each and every one of our participants of all abilities!
