Iowa and Illinois State Treasurers, Michael Fitzgerald and Michael Frerichs, visited Hand-in-Hand this week to talk about the new ABLE Accounts in both states. ABLE Accounts will greatly help families who want to prepare for expenses related to blindness or a disability, and Hand-in-Hand was proud to host the two Treasurers to discuss the benefits these accounts will bring.
ABLE stands for Achieving a Better Life Experience, and the accounts are tax-free savings accounts for people with disabilities and their families, which allow for a wide range of expenses, as long as they are related to your blindness or disability, including expenses for education, housing, transportation, employment training and support, assistive technology and personal support services, health, prevention and wellness, financial management and administrative services, legal fees, and expenses for oversight and monitoring, funeral and burial expenses.
