PWP Community Partner Spotlight: Family Resources

People with Purpose began volunteering at Family Resources in June of 2020. Hand in Hand was busting at the seams at the time for space during our summer programs so the group needed a new home base during that time. We formed a partnership with Family Resources to use some of their free space and PWP began volunteering for them soon after. The group assisted with a lot of landscaping, gardening, and cleaning projects. When the Donation Center at Family Resources opened, the group then started helping get things ready for the opening and sort through donated items and clothes.

The group now volunteers twice a month sorting through clothes that the community brings into the donation center. They process and sort incoming in-kind gifts, stage store areas, and maintain store cleanliness. Family Resources relies on the generosity of the community to donate items to support the children and families they serve.  Gently used and clean items are always shelf-ready, which People with Purpose is a part of.

“The Donation Center is supported by the community through community donations of clothing and household items to help clients manage a crisis and life transitions. The clients shop for free at the Donation Center and Hand in Hand helps us keep the store clean and organized,” said Bob Stone, Volunteer Coordinator and Supervisor for the Donation Center at Family Resources.

Family Resources is a large agency providing comprehensive social services to the community with the mission of supporting successful lives to build strong communities. They offer survivor services, mental health services and counseling, comprehensive care coordination, foster group care, licensing and support to foster and adoptive families, crisis stabilization residential services, and is a member of the Iowa Aftercare Services network to provide voluntary services and support to young people ages 18-21 who have aged out of foster care or other court-ordered placements.

Their Donation Center is currently accepting unopened personal care and home care items, home goods, clothing for children, women, men, and gender-fluid clothing, infant and toddler items, as well as art and craft supplies as well as school supplies.
