Now Enrolling for Fall Preschool

Children who turn 4 on or before September 15th are eligible for preschool!

In partnership with the Pleasant Valley School District

Children who turn four years old on or before September 15th  can participate in  Iowa's Statewide Voluntary Preschool Program as part of our full day wraparound care in partnership with the Pleasant Valley School District!

Iowa’s Statewide Voluntary Preschool Program for four-year-Old Children (SWVPP) is an important part of the state’s comprehensive early childhood effort, providing more opportunities for young children to access quality preschool and enter school ready to learn.

The preschool program is part of each child’s day at Hand in Hand and is led by a licensed teacher in their classroom, reducing the need for additional transitions and transportation to and from programs!

Kindergarten readiness is a term used to refer to a child’s readiness to make a successful transition into kindergarten. Hand in Hand’s preschool program supports the development of social/emotional skills, physical development, language development, problem-solving skills, and critical thinking skills to ready your child for a successful kindergarten experience.

The SWVPP operates September – June, but Hand in Hand is open year round in Bettendorf!

Learn More About Our Preschool Classroom

  • Hi, I'm Lauren. Welcome to Hand in Hand Preschool. As you come in our classroom, you'll always see our lesson plan for the week and the theme that we are going off of.

We use Iowa teaching strategies as our curriculum and then we'll always have a family newsletter as you walk in the door. All right, and then over here in this area we have our large group carpet area. In the morning, we'll have large group.

We will greet all of our children in the morning. We will usually have a question of the day and go over some literacy skills. We will wish children well who are not here and this is part of the conscious discipline curriculum that we use for our social emotional skills.

We do some deep breathing together and go over some self-regulation. In the morning, the children will pick their jobs each morning and they will also pick a commitment to use kind words, helpful hands, a big voice, or listening to other people's big voice. Then here is our daily schedule so children always know what's coming next in our routine.

This is our active calming wall. This is also with our conscious discipline curriculum that we use for social emotional skills. It's a 10-step process where they can use those skills to self-regulate and calm their bodies and manage those big feelings.

They can also go to our safe place here to calm their body safely and that tells other children they want to be alone, they need some time to cool off, and then they have some more tools up here to use for sensory. This is our manipulatives. This is math and science.

These are all tools children will use to gain those fine motor skills and some exploring. We also have a light table here where we have different materials that children can use on the light table. In each center, we always provide books for children to look at.

Each day, children in the preschool room will be in a small group at a table and we will spend about 10 to 15 minutes each day working on a skill and we use that documentation of those skills to put into goal to find progression throughout the year. This is our housekeeping center. This is where our preschoolers do pretend play.

It's a pretty popular area and we usually put different materials in here based off of the theme that we're doing for the week.
